Wayne Scott “Scotty” Hicks, 49, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 29, 2019. Scotty was born in Folkston, Georgia on July 23, 1970, to Carl R. and Geraldine Hicks. Scotty was a devoted son, brother, and friend. However, his most important and favorite roles were husband and father.
Scotty enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family in their beloved Tennessee home. He was an active member and Past Worshipful Master of Callahan Lodge No. 32 F.&A.M. and a member of the Callahan Order of the Eastern Star No. 154.
Scotty began his career as a firefighter and paramedic with Nassau County Fire and Rescue in 1992. Scotty retired with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department in June, 2014.
The most important decision Scotty made was to proclaim Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Callahan First Baptist Church and always counted it a privilege to be able to serve on a mission trip to Vietnam with his in-laws, Janet and Danny Johnson.
Scotty is survived by his best friend and wife of 22 years, Debra “Debbie” Hicks, daughter Hannah Elisabeth Hicks, and sons Jackson Scott Hicks and Greyson Yates Hicks; his mother, Geraldine “Jerri” Hicks; brothers Randy (Mae) Hicks and John (Eva) Day; mother-in-law, Janet Johnson; sisters-in-law, Nancy Tanner and Cindy (Chuck) Mitchell; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl R. Hicks; sister Jean Ann (Jimmy) Hicks Horne; brother Raymond “Ray” Hicks and father-in-law, David R. “Danny” Johnson.
A homegoing service will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Nassau Funeral Home with Dr. D. Lynn Hyatt, officiating.
Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home on December 3, 2019. Scotty will be laid to rest in his family cemetery, Valley View in Elk Valley, Tennessee at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 6, 2019.
