On October the 30th, 2012, Vanessa lost her courageous battle with a long illness at Rockcastle Hospital and Respiratory Care Center. Vanessa was the daughter of the late Doris Paige Gaylor and late James Edward Gaylor.

Vanessa attended East Tennessee State University where she received her bachelor's degree in Education. Vanessa went on to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she received her master's degree in Special Education. She taught Special Education and Speech during her carreer as an educator at several schools in the Campbell school system at schools including Lafollette Middle School and East Lafollette Elementary School. During her career she touched the lives of many students and colleagues alike and she loved and respected her chosen profession for the duration of her career that spanned over 30 years.

Vanessa enjoyed many hobbies including collecting a variety of treasures. She was also an avid sports fan and she enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams including the Lady Vols, Tennessee football and the Chicago Cubs. Vanessa's favorite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends and she loved telling and listening to stories about her children and grandchildren's many adventures. Vanessa also was quite fond of the theater and she enjoyed countless evenings going to Murder Mystery dinners, dinner theater events and local plays with her closest friends.

Vanessa was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, Tennessee as well as a member of the Tennessee Educators Association.

Vanessa is survived by her children, Mr. and Mrs. James David (Robin) Milhorn and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robert (Carrie) Milhorn and five grandchildren, Hannah, Connor, Reese, Clarice and Taylor. She was preceaded in death by her brother Claude David Gaylor.

Vanessa's family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the staff at Rock Castle Respitory Care Center for their unwavering care, love and support that they showed Vanessa during the time that she was under their care. Vanessa appreciated the family atmosphere at Rock Castle and in lieu of flowers, Vanessa requested that any gifts be made to the Rock Castle Hospital and Respitory Care Center in Mount Vernon, KY or the National Kidney Foundation.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Lake City. Funeral will follow visitation at 7:00 PM with Rev. Mike Jones officiating. At the request of the family, her interment will be private.
