Louis B. Struckman
Age 87, recently of Dillsboro and long-time resident of Moores Hill, passed away December 27, 2012 at one of his daughter's homes in Tennessee. He worked at Aurora Casket Company 11 years and Stedman Foundry in Aurora for 33 years. Born and raised in Aurora, he would have graduated in 1945, but instead enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. As a turret ball gunner, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Gold Star in lieu of a second Distinguished Flying Cross, for his bravery in the Pacific Fifth Fleet. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leona; daughters Roberta and husband J.W. Smith of Pontotoc, Mississippi; Patricia and husband Rick Elliott of Andersonville, Tennessee; Connie and husband Martin Kraus of San Diego, California, along with 9 grandchildren , several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded by all 8 siblings and parents, Florence (nee Goodpaster) and Frank Struckman. Visitation will be at the Aurora Baptist Church, 600 Daugherty Road, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with graveside services immediately after at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora. The family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the VFW in Aurora. Rullman Hunger Denney Funeral Home in Aurora and Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
