Retired SSgt. James L. Beam Sr., age 69, passed away on June 21, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born on September 5, 1941 in Statesville, North Carolina to Ray C and Hattie Roe Virginia Julian Beam. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, after receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Vietnam. He received many medals including the: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960. He was very proud to be a member of the Army Rifle and Pistol Team, while a member of the 101st Airborne Division at Ft Campbell, KY, he also served in Germany and Korea. He was a member of the Indian Bluff Baptist Church, and also enjoyed spending time with his family and reading. In addition to his parents SSgt Beam is preceded in death by his sister Brenda Beam, father and mother-in-law William Riley and Stella Hooks Braden, special brother-in-law James C. Deal, special nephew Michael W. Braden, Brother-in-law Kenneth W. Braden, and Sisters-in-law Lorene Braden and Barbara and Braden Daugherty Jr. He is survived by his loving family.

Funeral Service: 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenny Sharp and Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating.
Interment: Family and friends will meet at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at Hatmaker Funeral Home to go in funeral procession to Indian Bluff Cemetery in Briceville, TN for the 10:00 a.m. interment with Military Honors presented by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made to the Inidan Bluff Baptist Church Building Funds.
