Graylon Abbott Lamb slipped softly into the arms of God on July 7, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County, while surrounded by her loving children. Her used body has now been replaced by a perfect body from God.
Graylon was born in Campbell County to Joe E. and Maude Lowe Abbott, the third of five daughters and one son. Their strong willed father raised the daughters to work hard and be the equal of any man. She graduated from LaFollette High School and shortly after married Berlean Lamb. They settled in the Dutch Valley Community of Anderson County where she raised her four children there. She worked at Oak Ridge during WWII with her sisters but became a stay at home mom until 1960 when Berlean and she opened the Green Valley Truck Stop. Later they operated the D & W Restaurant and Lamb's Inn Restaurant and Motel in Lake City. They were married 44 years and remained lifelong business partners. They were avid collectors of antique cars.
Graylon always gave everything a 100 per cent effort and was a fierce defender of her family and friends. She was always faithful. She was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church since 1944 and held many positions. She and her friend, Lillian Stephenson, worked hard and helped get the Pleasant Hill Perpetual Cemetery Fund on a sound financial basis.
She was a Past Matron of Coal Creek OES Chapter 226 and a door member of Clinch Valley Chapter 369. She was a Grand Representative with several appointments from the Grand Chapter. She shared many fond memories with fellow members Doris Lamb and Barbara Disney.
She has a passionate interest in politics and was a past president of the Anderson County Republican Women's and worked hard in many elections. She traveled extensively after retirement and toured many places in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Holy Land.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Berlean Lamb Sr., sisters, Helen Abbott, Mable Emch, Woneva Selb, and Jeavea Brigman.
She is survived by beloved Sons, Berlean Lamb Jr. (Jake) and wife, Mary Lou of Clinton; William Joe Lamb of Clinton, Roger "Bo" Lamb of Clinton; daughters, Rita Jean Beach and husband, Tom of Richfield, North Carolina; Linda Wells of Clinton; brother, Joe Abbott of Michigan. Graylon had 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Special nieces, Jean Ann Pate of Newbern, TN; Eva Lucille White of Jacksonville, Florida; and Judi Turley of Okeehobee, Florida. Several other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Hatmaker Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM with Rev. Bill McDaniel officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:15 AM Monday, July 11, 2011 at the funeral home to go in funeral procession to Pleasant Hill Cemetery for a 10:00 AM interment.
