Eleanor Marie Cooper Dew, age 98, of Lake City, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Carl Dew with whom she shared ownership of Corner Drug Store in Lake City. She was born in Knoxville on March 4, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Oscar A. and Gertrude Jennings Cooper. Eleanor grew up in Knoxville where she attended Park City Junior High and graduated from Karns High School where she was the Salutatorian of the Class of 1935. After finishing Knoxville Business College, she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper in Knoxville and during the World War II she worked for the U.S. War Department in Atlanta and in Memphis.

Eleanor and Carl were married on July 10, 1944 after his return from the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy. They settled in his hometown, Lake City, where they raised their family and grew the family pharmacy, Corner Drug Store. Eleanor was active in numerous organizations and projects for the community, schools and her church usually serving as the secretary or treasurer. She was the oldest member of First Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for years. She loved dancing to the big band music of the forties, tennis, bridge, piano, musicals, and movies, and especially loved reading and the library. Eleanor and Carl traveled extensively visiting countries on five continents and in their motor homes, they drove across the U.S. several times.

In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her sister, Glendyn Herrell, and her brothers, William Cooper and Robert Cooper.

Survivors are children, Carolyn Pearre (Courtney), David Dew (Becky) and Edward Dew; grandchildren Adrienne Knestrick (Bob), Lee Patnaik (Raj), Matthew Dew, and Jessica Thompson (Kasey); great-grandchildren Cooper Knestrick, Cole Knestrick, Reed Patnaik, Anna Neil Patnaik, Collins Patnaik, Hadley Thompson, and Hayden Thompson; sister Dorothy Manning and several nieces and nephews.

The family especially thanks Eleanor's devoted caregivers Dorothy Jones, Becky Moses, Vernell Willis and Jennifer Spoon for all their loving assistance and attention to her care. Thanks also to the many current and former staff members of Morning Pointe Assisted Living, Clinton, to East TN Personal Care Service, and to Amedisys Hospice for helping Eleanor spend her last years in a setting of compassion and love. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 126, Lake City, TN 37769.

Visitation: 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Lake City.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Lake City with Rev. Doug Clem officiating.
Interment:To follow the Funeral Service at the Leach Cemetery in Lake City, Tennessee
