Cordell Eddie Edwards

Cordell "Eddie" Edwards, my wonderful husband and my best friend, age 85, a resident of Lake City went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. He was born April 21, 1925 to the late James and Grace Grubb Edwards in the Dyllis Community in Harriman, TN where he grew up on a farm. Cordell was a beloved brother of a large family where he learned at a young age the value of a strong work ethic.
Cordell was a member of the Clinch River Baptist Church. He was also an honorary member of the Dyllis Baptist Church where he enjoyed working so much with Bob Branson and the Pastor cleaning up the property and building a parking lot. Cordell truly treasured church and his church family.
He attended Wheat High School and was the last graduating class of the school in 1943. Cordell was a self-made business man. He and his wife moved to Lake City in the early 50's and owned and operated Edwards Shell Station, Edwards Trucking Company for over 20 years and HRS Hydraulic and Machine Shop now Unlimited Fluid Power operated by Tim Isbel, whom he considered an adopted son. They designed and built machines for various companies and have machines all over the world.
Cordell was always proud of his age, enjoyed the outdoors, optimistic, loved children, loved family get-togethers and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid sports fan. He and his wife attended UT football games faithfully and in 1998 attended the National Championship game. He also enjoyed the Lady Vols, men's basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.
Cordell and his wife loved to travel and spent the winter months in Florida. Cordell always worked hard his whole life. He was truly dedicated to all that he did and was a very gentle, kind, caring and giving person who deeply loved life.
Cordell was preceded in death by his parents, James and Grace Edwards; brothers, Winfred Edwards and Giles Edwards.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Wilma Ray Edwards; brother, Browder Edwards and wife Janice (deceased) of Harriman, TN; sisters, Mary Lambert and husband Willard of Huntsville, AL, Nina Bennett and husband Swanson of McMinnville, TN and Lois Smith and husband Luell of Springfield, TN; sisters-in-law, Glenda Edwards of Waco, TX; Polly Parks of Oak Ridge, TN and Kathleen Carter of Knoxville, TN. He and his wife had no children but he was a father figure to many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends that were involved in his life. Very special nieces, Kim Santas and Kristin McPherson, whom he considered as a grand daughter and spent lots of time with the family. They enjoyed traveling together and always went to Bible School. Also very special whom he considered as an adopted daughter, Linda Barnes and Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and many friends. Special friends, Lester and Mickey Fox family, Tim and Tina Isbel family, Bob and Ann Swisher family, George McGrew, Bob Martin, Doug Hawn, Bear Stephenson, Steve and Kathy Fowler and Earl and Polly Jordan, Sara Knight, and Pat and Sid Albright. Special thanks to his brother Browder for all the sincere help. We will truly miss his smile, his joyful ways of making people happy and his spontaneous sense of humor. He is in heaven now at peace in the arms of the angels.
