It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish.  Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Charles Edward Hawkins of Rocky Top, Tennessee as he passed away at the age of 77 on November 22, 2023.  You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and shared with the family.

Charles was born in April of 1946 to parents: Milas Henry and Georgia Mae Violet Hawkins of Coal Creek, Tennessee, which has since changed its name from the original Coal Creek, and to now, Rocky Top, Tennessee. Charles was the youngest of his siblings.  He was predeceased by his wife, Judy Phillips Hawkins; siblings Eugene Flynn, Ruby Hawkins, Viola Chadwick, Bob (Aliene Stroud) Hawkins, Shirley (Leoma) Hawkins, Kenneth Joe Hawkins and Clyde Hawkins.

He is survived by his children: Richard (Amy) Hawkins, Susie Hawkins (Trev) Clure and Lisa Hawkins.   Grandchildren: Breanna Phillips, Matthew Hawkins, Zoey, and Great grandchildren: Gavin Hawkins, Ryan and Aaron Clure.  A host of nieces and nephews; Junior Ray (Ann) Hawkins, Georgia Chadwick.  He is also survived by a host of other family members and friends.

Special recognition to surviving sister, Reba Leaders, sister-in-law, Aliene Stroud, niece, Georgia Chadwick, daughter, Susie Hawkins (Trev) Clure, stepdaughter, Missy Phillips, nephew, Junior Ray (Ann) Hawkins and close family friend, Chad Freeman.  Charles’ family would like to express gratitude to Select Specialty Services, Tennova Facility in Powell, Tennessee.

Army Staff Sergent, Charles Hawkins, served in the US Army from 1965 through 1970 and reenlisted in 1970 in the Army Reserves.  He received an extensive amount of training including Air Frame Repairman, UH 1 Heuy Helicopter Repairman, SP 2E Air Frame Aircraft Repairman including P-2 Neptune, Cross Border Training, Chemical, Biological and Radiological Training, as well as Military Justice. He was stationed in several areas like Hawaii and California, and lastly retired from the 14th Aviation Regiment, Fort Rucker, Alabama.  Charles eventually retired from TVA, Norris, Tennessee.  Charles’ hobbies always included his love of woodworking and farming including tobacco allotments, corn, sweet sugar cane, vegetable crops and lastly his love of cattle and mowing hay.

Visitation of Family and Friends: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home located at 503 S. Main Street, Rocky Top, TN 37769.

Funeral Service: 6:00 PM, Friday, December 1 ,2023 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Nephew Junior Ray Hawkins officiating.

The Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 NOON on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Island Ford Baptist Church in Rocky Top with Military Honors presented by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Charles’ resting place will be alongside his beloved wife, Judy Phillips Hawkins.
