Rev. B. Ray Phillips age 80, of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2019 at his residence. He is of the Baptist Faith and a member of Laurel Branch in Briceville. He was born on June 27, 1939. He was the son of the late Ike and Mary Jane Patterson Phillips and was one of thirteen children. He was raised on New River and later moved to Fratersville. In 1956 on Vowell Mountain he met his lifelong sweetheart Julia Fay Wilson Phillips. After their short courtship they married on June 15, 1956 in Lake City. He became the father of six children, five daughters, one son and a Grandfather of sixteen. A Great-Grandfather of thirty five and a Great-Great -Grandfather of twelve. B. Ray and Julia were married for sixty-three years. Throughout their years of marriage, they lived a short period of time in Cleveland, Ohio then returned to Lake City, Tennessee. They lived forty-three years in the Oak Grove community just outside the Lake City limits near Norris Lake. They recently moved to Clinton and have resided there for the last seven years. In August, 1956, B. Ray was saved at Waldens View Baptist Church. In 1958 he announced his calling to preach and enjoyed spreading the Gospel as a Baptist minister for the past sixty-one years. He pastored several area churches and spread the message of God's word by holding revivals, radio broadcast and singing Gospel music with his family. One of his favorite songs to sing was Somewhere There’s a Friend. Some of his other loves and hobbies were woodworking hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He especially loved deer hunting where he often, “showed them young boys up.” He was a master carpenter and he could almost build anything out of wood. After he retired in 1977 from Business Envelope and from his carpenter business, he enjoyed spending many hours in his work shop where he had a special gift of creating beautiful works of wood crafts.
