Bonnie Opal Masingo Page

Bonnie Opal Masingo Page, age 95 of Lake City, Tennessee passed away peacefully at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center. Many words can be used to describe her: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, gardener, Christian, and local historian. At an age when most people are rocking away on the porch, she wrote and published four books: Pruden (As We Remember It), Clearfork and More (History & Memories), Speedwell (Through 200 Years), and The Cumberland Gap Region (In Picture - Then and Now) as well as several smaller books. She lived at her family home in Lake City from the late 1940's until the present growing flowers and gardening as well as raising her two sons, teaching, and being active in Lake City civic organizations. She was born on January 20, 1920 to Charlie and Lou Masingo, and lived with her 8 siblings on a beautiful farm in Speedwell. After graduating from Powell Valley High School, she graduated from LMU in 3 years. Pruden was her first teaching job, and she met Donald F. Page, her future husband, while working there. Donald and Bonnie were married after Pearl Harbor on December 13, 1941. By 1946 she was the mother of two sons, Kenton and Steve, and a move to Lake City from Oak Ridge came next. Then, she began her teaching career at Lake City Elementary teaching 7th grade to many of north Anderson County children for over 30 years. After losing Donald to cancer in 1980 and retiring that same year, she threw herself into saving some local history memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, her husband Donald, and many friends.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake City and taught Sunday School for many years. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center for their kind care for those last 5 days. Also thanks to neighbor Shane McMillan and wife Michelle, Marlene and Jim Sharp for their many acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake City, Tennessee.

Funeral Service: 4 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Lake City, Tennessee with Rev. Doug Clem and Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.
Friends and Family will meet at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for Bonnie's interment.
